What is Dyslexia?
Dyslexia cannot be cured because it is not a disease. Dyslexics are picture thinkers who think in pictures, not words or with the sounds of words. They are confused with symbols. A symbol is something that represents something else. All letters, punctuation marks, and numerals are symbols. When they are confused they begin to experience disorientation. Their perception is distorted and this is why some dyslexics reverse letters. They do not see them backwards. They are confused with the symbols and just guess which direction they go.
It is estimated that dyslexia affects 10 to 15% of the population in the U.S. However, only 5 out of every 100 persons are recognized and receive assistance
